Acts 17:11 (NIV) 11 Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. – The Bereans received the message with joy and then examined to confirm it according to the Scriptures. The Pharisees examined the message with a critical spirit looking for ways to trap Jesus. The Pharisees hearts became hard as they were determined to find fault in everything that Jesus said. The difference in the examinations: heart condition. How do you examine; with joy to confirm or with a critical hard heart looking to condemn and find fault? It is easy to slip from being a Berean to being a Pharisee if we don’t keep our hearts right.
